Medicare Bad Debt
Reimbursement
We have a
program to identify, capture, and report additional inpatient
and outpatient bad debts not included on your originally filed
cost report. This includes a unique technological solution for
analyzing virtually all of your Medicare accounts. This ensures
that we review any account that has unpaid coinsurance or
deductible for reimbursement potential.
Our bad debt
program includes an analysis of data extracted from your patient
accounting system and data obtained from fiscal intermediaries.
Once we receive the data, we need almost no input from our
clients in order to analyze the patient accounts.
Upon completion
of our data analysis, we provide a detailed report of our
findings. It includes:
-
A list of
accounts that we identified as subject to additional
reimbursement.
-
Our conclusions
about the reasons the accounts were missed on the original
filing.
-
Our
recommendations for system changes to enable you to capture
similar accounts in the future.
Once you
understand and approve our conclusions, we prepare a package for
presentation to your fiscal intermediary describing the reasons
for reopening and listing the additional bad debt in the formats
they require. But our work does not end with the reopening
request.
With your
approval, we work with your fiscal intermediary through the
ultimate settlement of the reopening, responding to audit sample
requests and answering any questions or concerns they have. This
is what we do—it is not just another task in our day. As a
result, we respond to auditors quickly, ensuring a timely
completion of the reopening and the earliest possible receipt of
the additional reimbursement.
